Roy Helm – Trumpet, Fluggelhorn, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium
Professional Bio – Roy’s musical journey began at age 9 when he showed an interest in playing the trumpet. His journey continued when he joined the marching band in 7th grade. It was during this time Roy sought out and began studies with one of Western Pennsylvania’s leading trumpeter/trumpet instructor, Walter Vrusk. During his time in High School, Roy became involved with various musical combos, both in and out of school.
Roy received his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Edinboro University, and following his graduation, spent 3 years traveling from Toronto to Florida with a 7 piece group. After his time on the road, Roy began teaching in both the private and public school systems. Since moving to Lynchburg, Roy has served as Assistant Band Director at Brookville HS, and has been involved with instruction at local colleges and universities, church groups and performance in regional bands.
Roy uses a variety of method and exercise books, tailored to both the students educational needs.
